What you need to think about initially are questions that address the surrounding context:

  • What kind of information needs to be put on the Web site?
  • Why is the site being created?
  • Who will come to this site and visit?
  • Without the Web, where would your potential customer go to find similar information?

How does the information need to be structured?

  • What will constitute the "front door"?
  • What links will be provided on the front page?
  • Will the links adequately support the logical structure of the information hierarchy?

What kind of visual impact shall be produced?

  • What will be most noticeable on your site?
  • What will engage visitors?
  • How does the sites presentation (text and graphics) work visually? How effectively do the displays communicate?
  • What will visitors find new and surprising about your site?

How will interactivity be orchestrated?

  • Would you like an e-mail response?
  • Forms, to request more information about services or products offered? Guestbook, to have visitors sign up?
  • Search Engines, Shopping Baskets?
  • Web interfaces to your programs or data bases?
